Blogging about blogging: L.N.C.C. no.4

LNCC

Hi flock! Welcome to Late Night Cafe Chat number 4.

Tonight’s song is “Stars” by t.A.T.u.:

Tonight’s topic: blogging.

Modern blogging has changed dramatically from the old days of web logs. Due to over-saturation, blogs have to do all they can to remain relevant to an audience.

Needless to say, blogging has gotten a whole lot harder.

Some people make money off their blog through donations or monetization (ad-revenue). I don’t. WordPress doesn’t have a proper system for monetizing content, so I don’t make money on anything. This blog doesn’t cost me much (other than time) so it evens out.

Some people make blogging their life. They are chained to their blog. Everything revolves around it.

I’m fairly tied to this blog, but it’s just me here. I’m a fairly niche blog. It’s quite hard to create a constant stream of content. That’s why you see things like 80s music reviews, food reviews, or these late night posts: these are here to fill the gaps.

Blogging is also an incredibly thankless job. You might spend hours perfecting a post, only for it to be viewed by nobody (no matter how many times you share it).

Then, you make some random piece, and it catches fire.

When somebody picks up one of my posts on social media, I get excited. I get some views for the next few days, but then it tapers off.

If you want to get into blogging, do it for you. Don’t do it for the views. Don’t do it to become famous (it’s not going to happen). If I get 2 views, I’m excited: 2 people thought my content was interesting enough to look at!

So, blogging flock, riddle me this: why do you blog? I want to know? Is it theraputic? Is is fun? Do you make ridiculous amounts of money talking about weirdly shaped potatoes? I would love to know.
